Graduate Student Government will be hosting acclaimed cartoonist and comedian Jorge Cham in Tillman Auditorium on April 24 at 7 p.m. Mock Turtle Soup, student improvisation group, will also be performing as the opening act to the event.
Cham is known for his parodies of graduate school and life in upper level academia.
His comic strips, Piled Higher and Deeper (PhD) Comics, have been featured in newspapers of other universities, such as Stanford University, Carnegie Mellon and MIT.
The Graduate Student Government has been trying to get Cham to visit Clemson for two years and is very excited for his show next weekend.
“Usually the college he visits ends up in one of his comics, so we’re very excited about that,” former graduate student body president, Tammy Vaught said.
The event is free of charge and open to both undergraduate and graduate students, although grad students will be given priority seating.
Cham received his doctorate in Mechanical Engineering from Stanford University and served as a professor at California Institute of Technology before pursuing his career with PhD comics.
He travels to college campuses around the nation to empathize and laugh with graduate students about the difficulties and strange parts of higher-level education. Copies of Cham’s three books, Piled Higher and Deeper: A Graduate Student Comic Strip Collection, Life is tough and then you graduate: The second collection of Piled Higher and Deeper comic strips and Scooped!
